you need to keep them focused on you, This is done by changing direction crossing the road several times, getting them to either stand at the curb or sit. I prefer my dogs to stand as we walk in all weathers and I would not sit on a wet seat so why should they sit on a wet pavement.
Changing direction keeps your dog interested and responsive to you. It also keeps there walk interesting for them, going to different parts of the walk at different times. Road walking is good for your dog, as they get aware of there surrounding they also get use to traffic and the noise cars make, always walk your dogs safely and on a short lead so the dog is by your side. NOT WAY INFRONT OF YOU ON AN EXTENDING LEAD........ as your dog could run in to the road. For Night walks I would recommend a Julius K9 harness as these are reflective keeping Dogs and owners safe.
